Scottish - Ukrainian friendship tunnel

Public mural - May 2025 - North Lanarkshire council, Wishaw

It’s great to see that our artists are getting more independent and receive public funding for creative projects.

@kate_art_1985 was awarded with the grant for community art project from ‘Ukrainian Tenants’ and Residents’ Association established.

This mural project is a gesture of gratitude to the people of Scotland for their warmth, hospitality, and support during such a difficult time for Ukrainians.

The tunnel had quite a depressing  and gloomy feel despite the fact that it was a place where many locals walk through every day.

Public projects take plenty of time to complete. It took @kate_art_1985 nearly 9 months to get the planning permissions done and about a month to create a proper project plan.

Our team of 9 creatives collaboratively along with locals (adult and children) created a meaningful mural that we hope will strengthen community bond and will be a real object of positive change for the locals and visitors of Wishaw.

A public tunnel in Wishaw was completely transformed to The Tunnel of Scottish-Ukrainian friendship.
